Vale must be wondering what they've got to do to get a result against county rivals Bankies. Once again the home side put on a great show but they were taught that the game lasts 90 minutes and not 80 as slackness cost them two late goals.
With both sides being the odd team out in the section they took advantage to get one final pre season fixture into their schedule to fine tune their respective squads.
A boost for Vale fans was the inclusion in the side of the returning Brian Smith after three years away. A big favourite before his departure to Yoker it was great to see Brian back in a Dark Blue jersey once more and hopefully his experience can help the younger players around him.
Vale could have scored on several occasions in the first half, but a lack of composure cost them dear. The main offender being Alan Gourlay who volleyed a clear opening from 8 yards wide of the near post when it looked easier to score.
The home side also had a perfectly good goal chopped off for offside when Brian Smith volleyed home Hutchisons wayward shot with video evidence clearly showing later that the Vale man was at least a yard onside. It was almost half time before Clydebank had a decent shot at goal when Harvey shot into the side netting.
The second half was more of the same with the Vale creating the better of the chances with a 20 yard Jack Buchanan shot rattling the foot of the post being the pick of the bunch.
Vale keeper Matthew Carr made a great save to deny Stevie Dallas who had turned the defender Wilson and then the big keeper made another good stop to keep out Hailstones volley.
With 9 minutes remaining Bankies edged ahead when Vale gave the ball away cheaply and former Beith striker Stevie Dymock drove a low shot across Carr into the far corner of the net.
In the final minute Bankies Smith volleyed a cross from the right corner flag and experienced front man Stevie Dallas stooped to head home from close range to put a false slant on the scoreline.
