HUGH HAMILL'S Vale of Leven side stormed to the top of their League Cup Section with a 2-0 victory over Johnstone Burgh at Millburn Park on Saturday.
The Vale currently have a one- hundred-per-cent record but are not guaranteed to progress as both Port Glasgow and Renfrew still maintain an interest.
The Alexandria side have also kept three clean sheets so far, giving Hugh Hamill's men a huge chance of winning the section.
Alan Lees was skipper for the day and Vale's third captain in as many ties, however, the changing of the armband did little to hamper the Millburn Park side.
George Walker's Burgh side proved stiff competition for the Vale and it wasn't until the 75th minute before the deadlock was finally broken.
Hugh Ward opened the scoring after some good work from Mark Pawsey. Substitute Ward had only been on the pitch for seven minutes before beating his marker to lash home from 18 yards out.
Jack Buchannan doubled the Vale's lead two minutes later to round up the result, giving the Vale nine points from three games. |
