With the blustery conditions going to have an effect on this match it would clearly be a game of two halves. And so it turned out as Vale gifted the home side three points that saw them leapfrog Vale in the table.
Vale boss Hugh Hamill made three changes to the side that won at Perthshire last time out as Pawsey and McNaught returned and Parlane started his first match in midfield as Smith, and the injured Gourlay and Lees dropped out.
With the strong wind at their backs Vale should have made the most of this in the opening half but they were absolutely awful as they failed to build on their recent great form. Dougie Wilson passed up two good chances to put Vale in front before the home side made the most of their pressure by taking the lead after 36 minutes. Craig Cavana was wrongly punished for a foul as an opponent backed into him and DONNELLY curled a free kick up and over the Vale wall and into the top corner of the net.
Vale bolstered the midfield with Brian Smith replacing Dougie Wilson at the break as they hoped to change the pattern of the game. Three minutes into the 2nd period and Vale should have been level when Pawsey broke clear but he took too long to get the ball under control and saw his effort blocked. At the other end Carr saved a point blank effort from Ogilvy with his legs and then Alan Filshie saw his powerful header from a Berry corner flash past the upright and then McNaught saw his header saved by keeper Connolly.
After 65 minutes Vale were rewarded for their efforts when they equalised following a Berry free kick. Cavana headed back across the face of goal and MARK PAWSEY scrambled the ball home from close range. The Vale scorer then passed up two good chances before Cambuslang grabbed a bizarre winner with just 11 minutes remaining. McCraes effort came off Wilsons head and keeper Carr appeared to drop the ball over the line to give the home side all three points just when Vale were well on top.
Vale can take great credit for a fine second half but that first half showing was one of the poorest for a long time. Best for Vale were Berry and second half sub Brian Smith.
